Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Endorses L.J. Bryant's Campaign for Land Commissioner

Arkansas' largest daily newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, endorsed L.J. Bryant's candidacy for Arkansas State Land Commissioner on Thursday, May 13th. Stating, "there is a clear choice in the Democratic primary for Arkansas' land commissioner" the editorial staff continued by explaining some of the crucial roles of the Land Commissioner's office and praising a number of ideas that Mr. Bryant has for the office including putting overdue taxes on credit cards and the use of technology to make the identification and viewing of land parcels easier. In concluding its endorsement, the Democrat-Gazette also stated that "voters could send a candidate into the general election who just might do a great job for the people of Arkansas." We agree with them - "do yourself and the state of Arkansas a favor: Vote for L.J. Bryant."

Arkansas Times on L.J. Bryant

I just had a visit from L.J. Bryant, the fresh-faced 23-year-old from Jonesboro who's brimming with ideas to bring the land commissioner's office into the 21st century -- 10 years after the fact.

He makes a believable case that established technology (not iffy, expensive dream stuff) exists for improvements that would make the handling of delinquent tax properties more efficient, more accessible and more transparent. Why shouldn't bidding on-line by allowed? Why shouldn't payments be allowed with credit cards? Why shouldn't you be able to go on-line to view properties, rather than be forced to rely on dense published legal descriptions that only the most experienced professionals can parse?

The Democrat-Gazette endorsed Bryant this morning and columnist Meredith Oakley had earlier pointed out the lack of ideas that "distinguish" the other candidates. They may be onto something.
